Roger Worthington is a plaintiffs lawyer and advocate who has represented asbestos cancer patients since 1988. He believes in holding companies who knowingly make and sell defective and ultra-hazardous products accountable. He also believes in giving back. Worthington was the first lawyer ever to reach out to patients, doctors, drug companies and industry to start a non profit medical foundation, the mission of which is to cure mesothelioma (MARF).

In 2005, MARF awarded Roger the Congressman Bruce Vento "Hope Builder" Award in recognition of his efforts to persuade industry, the drug companies, trial lawyers, and the federal government to fund therapy-focused mesothelioma research. Roger dedicated the award to his dad, “Punch” Worthington who has asbestosis and lung cancer.

Unlike MARF, which reviews and awards research grants , PHLBI will conduct its own bench-work and clinical research. Through PHLBI, Worthington has funded the creation of the Punch Worthington Research Laboratory, which is located at the UCLA Medical School in Los Angeles.

Worthington's philosophy is simple: To truly be an advocate, one must accept his client's priorities as his own. Victims of toxic poisoning deserve and need fair compensation. But what they want -- what their spouse, children and friends want -- is more life. Compensating victims is a noble and worthy mission, but that alone does not eradicate a public health epidemic. Worthington believes that all stakeholders -- patients, lawyers, doctors, drug companies, the government and industry -- have a moral obligation to prevent future tragedies by cleaning up the source of the poison and by investing in medical research so that innocent victims have a fighting chance to survive their cruel fate.
