Tom "Tommy" Reed

Mr. Tom “Tommy” Reed succumbed to mesothelioma on September 8, 2007 after his year’s battle with pleural mesothelioma. Tom Reed was a retired Heat and Frost Insulators and Associated Trades Union member (formerly Asbestos Workers Union) from Local 7 in Seattle, Washington.

Tom ReedThomas Raymond Reed passed away at the young age of 57 at his home in Graham, WA on September 8, 2007. Born July 17, 1950 in Chowchilla, CA to parents Karl and Lois Reed, Tom was the ninth of twelve children growing up in Tacoma.

After graduating from Puyallup High School in 1968, he joined the Coast Guard, serving four years. Then in 1972 he followed in his father’s footsteps and became part of the Heat and Frost Insulators Union Local #7. He was in the trade for 33 years and even got to work side by side with his son before leaving the trade.

Tom was a very proud family man. He loved being a father and grandfather and would often tell his friends and family how proud he was of his children and their accomplishments. An avid outdoorsman, Tom could often be found on his backhoe or tractors. He spent many years tinkering around his place, turning it into a beautiful oasis. He was very artistic and creative. His political cartoons could make you laugh. He had a wonderful sense of humor that put everyone at ease. You always felt welcome around him. One of his fondest times was building his home with his nephew Dale.

Tom left behind a devoted wife of 26 years, Lorraine, a son, Joshua and his wife Juanita and their daughter Lilyanna. His daughter Icel and husband Damon Sullivan and their children, Hannah, Logan and Lauren. His large family includes #1 Roland (wife Rosemary) of Chelan, #2 David (wife Roz) of Shelton, #3 Bill (wife Jeri) of Mammoth Springs, AR, #4 Dan (wife Penny) of Bouse, AZ, #5 Jerry (wife Wanda) of Grants Pass, OR, #6 Leo (wife Angie) of Central Point ,OR, #7 Lois King of Atlanta, GA, #8 John (wife Diane) of Spanaway, #10 Esther Endecott (husband Mike) of Medford, OR, #11 Karen Lauer (husband Dick) of Vancouver and #12 Donna Brilhante (husband Roddy) of Phoenix, AZ.

His memorial service was held in the Valley Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499-4012 at 1pm on Saturday, September 22nd. Those gathered shared their favorite memories.
