Multimodality is an approach to treating mesothelioma which incorporates multiple modes of treatment into the overall treatment strategy. The goal is to use a combination of available treatment methods which complement each other so that the weaknesses or limitations of one treatment are off-set by another. Many doctors who specialize in treating mesothelioma believe that this is currently the best way to treat mesothelioma.
Multimodality treatment for mesothelioma typically involves surgery along with one or more other treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation and immunotherapy. Specialists may have their own preferences in terms of the treatments they include in their multimodal regiment.
